South America

The next lists set we have is for the South America

The military history of the Indigenous peoples of South America was defined by remarkable diversity in organisation, weaponry, and strategic adaptation. The Inca Empire possessed the most sophisticated system, fielding large, centrally coordinated armies drawn from provincial levies. These forces relied on disciplined infantry, slingers, archers, and macana clubs, supported by an extensive road network that enabled rapid mobilisation across the Andes.

Beyond the Inca sphere, societies such as the Mapuche, Charrúa, and Guaraní developed distinct martial traditions. The Mapuche, in particular, became renowned for their prolonged resistance to Spanish conquest, adopting horses, iron weapons, and flexible tactical formations to counter European advantages. In the Amazon and Orinoco basins, warfare tended to be small-scale and raid-based, with highly mobile warriors skilled in ambushes, poisoned arrows, and knowledge of difficult terrain.

Throughout the period, Indigenous groups demonstrated strategic resilience, modifying their military practices in response to shifting alliances, colonial incursions, and inter-regional rivalries.
