Russian Poltava Campaign

Couple of points on the current list.

Streltsy – don’t think any were involved in this campaign.

Russian infantry – feel I am repeating something here as this was resolved previously but has now come back in for some reason. There is no reason to limit some of the Russian infantry to Poor if you take large numbers of them. At this stage the army was competent and IMO there is nothing from Poltava that suggests anything other than rating the line infantry as Average (although allowing a Poor option is not a problem, but you shouldn’t ever have to have them). Also all units had pikemen (apart from the Grenadiers IIRC) so Integral Pike characteristic is needed for the Guards who are missing it.

The infantry quality issue also applies to the Russians vs. Ottomans list (plus in that list the Guard infantry oddly have Dismountable).

Hi Nik

I've been re-reading Englund and think you are right about rating the Russian infantry by Poltava as average. The last desperate Swedish attack did drive back part of their first line and there is some debate about whether any of these foot broke, or recoiled back, but they were in part facing the Swedish lifeguard, who the list rates as exceptional, even if by then they had suffered a lot of casualties! In the end the left side of the Swedish foot gave way and it released the pressure. Earlier a combined arms attack had wiped out Roo's infantry but the Russian infantry did outshoot and then charged and broke the worn out Swedes.

The change was a line glitch whilst their will always be the option to play russian line as poor you will also have the option to have them all as average
