Which would the lesser of two weevils?
« on: March 25, 2020, 08:18:32 AM »
As in locked down building my 1/32 ecw armies. Surprisingly I can't find find any royal cavalry. But have a box of iron sides and a box of Halbridger lobsters.

Do I use the Halbridgers as Kings gentleman or the iron sides as helmeted royals cavalry?

One or the other will happen but which would the lesser offence?

I assume you mean Haselrig's lobsters (or any variant spelling)  ;D

And by Kings gentlemen do you mean the gentlemen pensioners who were at Edgehill?

If the latter go with the lobsters - the pensioners are often assumed to have ben cuirassiers but I don't think there is any direct evidence.

Besides Haselrig's there are a number of other Roundhead Lifeguard units, in particular Essex's .

However these units will be very small as little at 50 - 150 real men.

I'm sure I've recently read somewhere (possibly the Helion book on Roundway) that it has been suggested that even Haselrig's regiment up to Roundway wasn't wholly cuirassier, perhaps only some of the troops. After Roundway when it was reformed it doesn't appear to have been cuirassier any more.
