If a mounted tug takes three shooting hots from the front and two from the flank how far is it driven back? Three or 5 base widths?

To take the example a bit further, if the tug can ignore two drive backs can the defender say which ones he is ignoring. Such as ignoring two from the front so in fact he would not be driven back at all?

Rules as written , deductions are made in me17.j.2. There is nothing to preventing taking away from flanking fire.

So you would have a choice .

Ignoring the 2 to the flank you go back 3.
Ignoring 2 to the front you don't go back at all.
