Drivebacks too effective?

We've played a few playtest games of 5.1 now, mostly set in the War of the Spanish Succession, but also some ECW.  It worked rather well for the WSS, at least to us and we thoroughly enjoyed them.  However, although we also enjoyed the ECW games, a few oddities seemed to crop up.  We felt that Drives Backs were far too effective in Epico scale, especially with the number of hedges we used.

Drive back effects, if I'm reading the Epico rules correctly, work exactly as full ReG, but in Epico the movement and ranges are reduced roughly by about a third.  We found units struggling to reach the enemy with their reduced movements as a result.  We decided to commit playtest heresy after a bit, and simply ignored any "S" shooting results for drivebacks.

We are currently trialling a new version of Epico. In this newer version, all foot ignore 1 drive back. So, you may want to try this.

Just to remember - you can't be driven back more than your move. So, worst for foot is 2BW. For ECW you are likely to ignore 1 for chequerboard.
